 The Thoroughbred
By Emily A.

A thoroughbred is a type of racing horse. It is a very big and strong mammal.

Thoroughbreds usually live on farms and are trained to race in races.

A thoroughbred gives it's foal or colt milk until it is old enough to eat grass and hay.

A thoroughbred is protected by humans and they protect themselves by kicking and running away.

They are usually brown with a black mane. Back in 1688 thoroughbreds had three different names: Byerly Turk, Darly Arabian, and Godolphin Arabian.

They usually never live in the wild.

They are protected by law because if you have a thoroughbred you have to take care of it and you cannot steal them.

The thoroughbred is not on the endangered list.

 Why me? By Gavin Barry

Why do things like this always happen to me?

I sit my juice down and innocently reach under the entertainment center to grab something shiny I see clear back there and ... BOOM. I'm stuck. Again.

Everyone was messing with Emily's new hair cut and I was tired of all the hoopla so I decided to take things into my own hands. Or, something like that. I put my head in my horse trailer. It was an innocent enough idea but then ... BOOM. I'm stuck. Again.

Of course, Grandma wasn't here to save me, but mom had her camera handy! Darn it, MOM!!!

Do you know where that finger has been?

By Gavin Barry

This weekend - October 26-28 - we went up to visit Grandpa Rick and Grandma Jo. The car ride up Friday night was bad - too darn long.

But, Saturday I got to play with my FAVE CUZ Jean from Alaska. Her and I went on walks all over the neighborhood. Great Aunt Babe just moved into her new "crib" which is across the street from Grandma's - AWESOME!! I crunched the leaves and tested out the stairs at the bank and helped sweep out the garage and went for a swing (across the street at Grandma's) and saw the tractors (TRATTER!!) and heard the church bells. It was fun.

When we went back to Grandma's after supper I was playing, minding my own business when I stuck my finger in the VCR. Oops. Mom came in but wouldn't help me. I wailed and here came Grandma around the corner to save me and my finger.

It worked so well I thought I would try it again. And, again, Mom wouldn't help me. But, she took this picture of me. DARN IT ALL!!

Today (Sunday) we came home. We dropped Grandpa off at the airport. I slept all the way to Mason City then was up to keep Mom company the rest of the way home. The car ride back home was bad - too darn long.
 Days until ...
