| In 2007 I was given a family mystery to solve. Why is the Cooper family Bible from 1879 in our family's posession? Good question. Really. I like puzzles. Then I had another box of puzzles given to me (thanks Tori!) in the form of dozens of unknown and unlabeled family pictures. Well, when you start putting 2+2 together, you can add things up. Finding the names on some pictures fit with some genealogical information in a large notebook (also from the box) and voila! It turns out that my grandfather's maternal lineage was through the Cooper family (Bert Cooper Whittum). Duh! We kind of knew all of this - collectively as a family, but it wasn't written down.
From my research since, I have some stories for some of my long-passed predecessors. Tales of the revolutionary war, of a son who went south and joined the Confederate army, of POWs and even married cousins (ooops).
So for the extended Bush, Cooper, Dodd, McMillan, Pontious, Spohr, and Whittum families, welcome! And then there's the Pettibones, Wernerts, Bostons, Bosses, Covals and Repinskis... and... and... I wonder what the record for the biggest family tree on familylobby.com is? Maybe we'll find out.
