Question:  Why does the church of Christ take of the Lord's Supper each Sunday?

Answer: It is expected that every member of the church will assemble for worship on each Lord's day. A central part of the worship is the eating of the Lord's supper (Acts 20:7). Unless providentially hindered, each member considers this weekly appointment as binding. In many instances, as in the case of illness, the Lord's supper is carried to those who are hindered from attending the worship service.

Question: Why are there no instruments of music in the worship service?

Answer: As a result of the distinctive plea of the church - a return to New Testament Faith and practice - acappella singing is the only music used in the worship. This singing, unaccompanied by mechanical instruments of music, conforms to the music used in the apostolic church and for several centuries thereafter (Ephesians 5:19). It is felt that there is no authority for engaging in acts of worship not found in the New Testament. This principle eliminates the use of instrumental music, along with the use of candles, incense, and other similar elements.

Question: Why does the church of Christ baptize only by immersion?

Answer: The word baptize comes from the Greek word "baptizo" and literally means, "to dip, to immerse, to plunge." In addition to the literal meaning of the word, immersion is practiced because it was the practice of the church in apostolic times. Still further, only immersion conforms to the description of baptisms as given by the apostle Paul in Romans 6:3-5 where he speaks of it as a burial and resurrection.

Question: Why does the Church of Christ not use instruments in their worship?

Answer: There are several verses that deal with music and some of them are Col 3:16, Eph 5:19, Heb 2:12 and Acts 17:25 where we are told to make music in your heart, singing with your heart, and sing praises to God. No where do we find that instrumental music is used during worship. It was not used in the Most Holy Place or Holy Place during the Old Testament. No where is it spoken of being used during the New Testament either. Christ did not have it during His life during worship and the Apostles never taught to use it. So why was it ever added?

We are told to worship God with the instruments of our heart. We are to pluck the strings of our hearts.

A better question would be to find out why other religions added it to their worship service? Who authorized it in their worship to God?

As a result of the distinctive plea of the church - a return to New Testament Faith and practice - acappella singing is the only music used in the worship. Question: What is the difference between the Church of Christ and the Baptist and the Methodist?

Answer: There are several major issues between the Church of Christ and the Baptist / Methodist. One of the most noticeable is that the Methodist believes in Sprinkling and Immersion concerning baptism. The Methodist use Rom 10:9, 10 to show that all a person has to do is to confess with the mouth and believe in Christ then you are saved. But we must use the whole bible, and not just bits and pieces. In Acts 2:38 we are told that we should repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of our sins. That is why the Church of Christ look at the five steps of salvation (Hear, Believe, Repent, Confess and be Baptized).

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Question: Does Baptism have to be by emersion only?

Answer: Baptism is important for salvation. The problem is many different religions want to use sprinkling, dipping and emersion. Baptism represents death, burial and resurrection in that order. You cannot move the items to different orders. We take a dead person and bury them completely.

In Romans 6:13 we are told to obey the doctrine of the death, burial and resurrection. Some religions believe you ask god to save them then bury them and then raise them up. It MUST be done in the correct order.

The Enoch knew that he had to be baptized to be saved.  Both went down into the water. The baptism is the burial of the dead person to the world and then you rise up the new spiritual being.

Why do we follow this example? The Church of Christ follows Christ and not men’s examples and teachings. Why was Jesus baptized? To join the church? No, He is the church. Christ did this as an example for us.

Were people baptized before Jesus was? Yes, in Matt 3: we read about John’s baptism. He was baptizing for repentance. The Jew’s had several cleansings of the body and they understood that there were doing things because of spiritual cleansings.

            Isa 55:8-9

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Question: Why do we have to believe the church of Christ doctrine?

Answer: The church of Christ does not have a doctrine. We follow the examples that are described and told to us from the Bible.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Question: If the church of Christ is a small religious body but claims to follow the Bible, then why is it one of the smallest churches?

Answer: The gospel expects us to turn everything over to God and most religions do not want to follow this. They change the Bible so they can stay in control. People want to please themselves and not God. We follow the teachings of the Bible and most other religions change the Bible to fit their needs, not change their needs to match the Bible.

In the time of Noah and the flood, only 8 people were saved. There were only 8 righteous people found in the world back then and they were saved, so as long as we follow the teachings of the Bible we know that we will be saved!

We are also told to enter the straight gate because “few there are that will find it”, but many will find the wicked gate. The Bible tells us that there are only a few that will be saved, not due to God’s plan, but due to man’s wickedness.

Another example is Gideon who with only 300 soldiers conquered an army with several thousand soldiers. When God is on you side we can do anything, but we can’t change things to make it fit into our plans.

Many religions have changed the gospel to bring people in, but when the priests offered a different fire then they were killed. They did not follow the teachings of God.

Question: In Mark 16:15-18, we focus mainly on verses 15 & 16, but what about the signs that are mentioned in verses 17 & 18?

Answer: In I Cor 13:8 it tells us that these miracles will cease when the perfect comes. What is the perfect that the verse speaks of? It is the church and it replaced the “temporary” signs that people used to show the unbelievers that they were from God.

Mark 16:19-20 it tells us that Christ ascended and is setting on the right hand of God. The apostles went to the world teaching about Christ and the Church using signs. You must remember that the signs were not for the believers, but for the unbelievers. When people try to use signs in church today they are using them for the strengthening of the members already in the “church”. We must remember why the apostles did the signs.

In John 20:26-29 we are told how Christ arose from the grave and Thomas would not believe until he touched the wounds in his hands and side. Christ told him that he believed because he was able to see the wounds but blessed are those that do not see “the miracles” and believe.

Question: What is the best way to teach someone that you are not saved by only saying the “sinner’s prayer” and that you must also be baptized?

Answer: Acts 16:30-32 is the main verse that people use to say that by a prayer you can be saved, but the stop reading at verse 32. In verse 33 we are told that “immediately” they were baptized! If baptism is not that important, then why did the jailer and his family do it so late in the night?

In Acts 8:31 we are told that the Ethiopian Eunuch was studying. Philip asked him if he understood what he was reading. The Eunuch told him that how can he understand it unless someone guides him? If the Eunuch could have been saved by just asking it in a prayer, then he would have already been saved before Philip arrived, but Philip was directed by an angel to go and teach the eunuch about salvation. It is also interesting to note that Philip started teaching the eunuch where he was at in his readings of Isaiah. As they traveled down the road Philip taught him. The next thing we know is that they were BOTH going down into the water and the eunuch was baptized.

Question: What is virtue that is mentioned in II Peter 1:5?

Answer: Before you have faith & belief you must have God and virtue is the act of using or displaying your faith and belief. Putting you belief in practice is virtue. Virtue is basically moral goodness. It is one of the building blocks of our faith and is displayed in our lives.

Question: Where in the Bible does it tell us that it is wrong to dance?

Answer: Bible does not say that it is wrong, but the Bible condemns lust. The Bible also does not say it is wrong to poison a lake, but we know that it is wrong.

Boys and Girls mind’s work different. When most boys see girls’ dancing it causes a sexual reaction and this can lead to lust. The “works of the flesh” are condemned in several location and just some of them are Romans 1, I Corinthians 6, I Thessalonians 1, and Galatians 5.
