“I was born with balance and
motor-related disabilities as well
as learning difficulties, but it has
not stood in my way when it
comes to computers!” said
22 year-old Canton resident
Patrick Springstead. “I am very
comfortable showing people
how easy and fun it can be
to surf the web or write posts
on FaceBook. I want to use my
skills and knowledge by helping people who are having
trouble understanding computers. I just helped a
woman supported by CLS set up her own website
page for her business. She has a candle making business
and she just wanted a simple page to show off her
product. It was fun and I’m glad I could help her.”
“Growing up, Patrick faced many challenges; extensive
surgeries, constant physical and educational
rehabilitation in order to learn to be independent,”
said Patrick’s mom, Bonnie. “His computer was a
constant resource and aid in his development.
He shouldn’t be able to text like crazy on his
Blackberry, but he can. It was a major milestone
that he recently moved out of our home. He is living
in Canton in an apartment complex. He is in school
and is looking for a part-time job where he can
interact with people and show them how to use
email, store music, set up simple web sites, or learn
how to use Facebook or Skype.”
“I am hoping Patrick can find a place to volunteer
where seniors get together and need help with their
computer skills. That would be a perfect job for
Patrick,” said mom Bonnie. “He’s already set up two
of his own websites complete with graphics, pictures,
animation and a flash gallery.”
“I know I can help people learn all kinds of things on
their computers,” said Patrick. His love of gadgets
also extends to phones, cameras and IPods. If it has
buttons, he can show you how to use it!
