OCTOBER FOR OLSONS
.
It is October, and the weather is crisp.  Today, October 10, snow was on the ground when we woke up in Buffalo, MN.  It won't last, and it can probably be used as a hint that winter is coming!
.
There will also be a dinner in honor of Val Olson on October 30 at 5:00 at the Randall VFW.  The event will provide an opportunity to visit with Val, to assist with financial obligations in the wake of his recent stroke, and to gather new and old friends together to create new memories!  Val recently experienced a stroke, needed to be airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center, treated for stroke and then released as he continues the various therapies needed to promote his recovery.  Now at home, he's cooking and cleaning as he works on his recovery.  A truck driver, the earliest Val may hope to get a review of his driving privileges will be October 20.  Always an active member of the community, Val has been active in church activities, youth activities and the local first response team.  Now, let's all get together, visit with Val and provide him with financial and personal support at this event on October 30th in Randall!
.
Darcy Young reports she is planning on attending, and Amy Eich will try to get there after reviewing her work schedule.  In October, Darcy will be a busy lady!  She reports she will be working, driving cab and sleeping!  She'll be teaching a sewing class on Wednesday evenings, and Shailyn will be going to school as Vanessa goes to daycare.  In Darcy's words, "Life is uncertain at best right now."  It's certain, though, that she'll be visiting Diana and Heidi for their birthdays this month!   Watch for photos from this summer that Darcy will be attempting to post soon!
.
CORRECTION!
Bill Agens will be directing the teen center for the Pequot Lakes high school.  Last month, we incorrectly reported that he would be doing his part time work in Pine River, but he will actually be enjoying his time in Pequot Lakes!
.
Amy Eich reported she visitied with her Dad and the Siebels side of the family on October 4th.  Things are well with Ken Siebels, she reports.
.
Vicky Olson won an award for bowling!  During Customer Service Week, her employer treated the entire customer service team to two games of bowling.  Out of about 24 people there, she won a small prize (Dominoes and Mancala game) and a certificate that she proudly displays on her wall at work:  Lowest Score:  70.  She figures the only way to go is up!
.
If anyone is interested in adopting a young cat (6 months?), let Vicky know at vickykae@hotmail.com.  It's a stray female cat, not spayed, and extremely friendly!  Mostly white, it is mostly calico.  She likes lots of attention!.  Her current, temporary home cannot afford to keep her, and she is not an outdoor cat.  Please feel free to volunteer a home!

September 30, 2009 - Caramel Apples, Olson Origins
  • 6 apples
  • 6 craft sticks
  • 1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  1. Remove the stem from each apple and press a craft stick into the top. Butter a baking sheet.
  2. Place caramels and milk in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave 2 minutes, stirring once. Allow to cool briefly.
  3. Roll each apple quickly in caramel sauce until well coated. Place on prepared sheet to set.
  4. The caramel coating is very gooey, so refrigerate the apples for about 15 minutes, or until the caramel has firmed up.
