So many people today are not really enjoying their lives because of the condition of their minds. They constantly dwell on negative, destructive, harmful thoughts. They don't realize it, but the root cause of many of their problems is simply the fact that their thought life is out of control. They just dwell on any thought that comes.
More than ever, we have to understand that our lives follow our thoughts. If you think negative thoughts, then you're going to live a negative life. If you think discouraging, hopeless thoughts, can't-do-it thoughts, mediocre thoughts, then your life is going to go down that exact same pathway. That's why we have to take captive every thought and renew our minds with the Word of God on a daily basis.
I want to challenge you today to think about what you're thinking about. Don't let those self-defeating thoughts linger in your mind. Instead, speak God's promises over your life. Declare what He says about you. Take captive every thought and renew you

God, one of the things I want most in my life is peace of mind. I buy books that promise peace of mind. I listen to CDs that promise peace of mind. But it rarely comes, and it never lasts. God, I mistakenly seek peace of mind as an end, and fail to accept it as a gift. When I seek it, I lose it. Help me to realize that no peace of mind comes until I lose myself in You. Jesus said, "MY peace I give unto you." Help me to be still and await Your still small voice. Help me to accept Your gift of peace that passes understanding. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God, when I look at the world, I see greed, the power of sin, and rampant strife. A deep dread fills my heart, and I wonder where You are in all of this. But when I look through the eyes of faith, I see intricate beauty, woven through with threads of love, in the peaceful light of eternity. O God, Your providence is so much greater than my vain strivings. My Lord and God, may I see everything through the eyes of faith, knowing that You are in control. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God, every time I get anxious, it's because I'm afraid I will lose something I cling to. Every time I get angry, it's because someone gets in the way of one of my attachments. When I feel threatened, it's because something threatens one of my gods. When I'm miserable or depressed, it's because I'm afraid of losing one of my idols. God, I don't want to be controlled by these things. Help me to let go of them. Help me to trust You to guide me in my work and my life. Lead me in the path of righteousness. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God, when I pray, help me to focus on You, not me. Help me to focus on Your perspective, not mine. Help me to focus on Your way, not my way.
