Dark Night Journey by Sandra Cronk.    

Having been through several years of darkness recently, I was given this book by a Trappist monk to help me understand how silence, emptiness, darkness, the absence of God, not knowing, poverty, and contemplation are the way to meeting God directly and not just through His gifts.  Modern churches are more familiar with knowing, Words, presence, light, and community, but when a a death, loss of a job, a spouse or child abandining the family, or other dark times come the modern Christian is quickly overwhelmed in pain with no road map.  This book, wirtten by a Quaker, is THE ROAD MAP.
